Help Young Adults Arizona Hosts Plarn Sleeping Mats for the Homeless Community Partnership Event

Updated: Jan 1

Our hearts are full from last night’s event! We had the pleasure of being taught how to make plarn (plastic yarn) sleeping mats by plarn trainers Candace and Monica from DSquared Homes for the Homeless who brought four looms to help maximize our time together!

Monica (yes—another Monica 😊), Blanca, Norma and the rest of the Mountain Park Health Center Gateway Clinic staff were so helpful in providing a great space, guiding the volunteers, and handing out water and snacks!

We heard nothing but great feedback from the volunteers sharing how nice the clinic staff was, how fun it was to learn how to plarn, and most importantly the fact that a couple of hours of their time were more than worth whomever will benefit from having a more comfortable way to sleep.

As we spent the next two hours listening to holiday music amongst new friends, it was a great reminder that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers and community partners DSquared Homes for the Homeless and Mountain Park Health Center Gateway Clinic for making this event such a huge success.

It typically takes about 10 hours to make one sleeping mat, but because of everyone’s diligence, we ended the night with a full sleeping mat done! This is a testament to what we can do when we come together as a community.

✨ 3 organizations

✨ 40+ volunteers

✨ 2 hours

This is what it’s all about. 💕
